This project required us going down to an aggressive 16 grit metal bond diamond. The floor had been very badly laid, resulting in lippage that was over a half inch and was a trip hazard.
There was over 100m2 to be restored, flattened, sealed and polished. Starting on a Friday evening and working through the weekend while the premises was closed. We had a deadline to be finished before reopening to the public at 8am on Monday morning.
Our first task was to remove all lippage and get the surface flat and even.
This process alone took 14 hours straight through the night 6pm-8am to get the floor to an even 100 grit, before heading off to The Fig Tree for a tasty breakfast and 6 hours sleep.
Saturday evening was spent bring the floor from 100 grit to 200, to 400 to 800 and finally up to 1500 grit.
Another 12 hour shift being put in, leaving the floor to be finished out on the Sunday. We headed back to The Kilford Arms for some much needed sleep and dream of brand spanking new shining floors.
Sunday Morning 11am Mass in St Mary’s. An enlightening experience. Strength to get through the day with less bickering than usual. The last phase of grinding, taking us up to a 3000 grit floor finish and into the marble floor polishing phase. It has been a a testing and rewarding project but Mission accomplished! Leaving some very impressed and happy owners.
