This was a small enough project in Kentstown, Co. Meath, comprising of about 35m2 of Negro Marquina marble. It is a hard stone that had become worn, stripped of it's polish and seal.
The stone itself was in good condition, with little scratching. So a case of cleaning and stripping the remainder of seal and polish, followed by grinding 200-3000 grit , resealing and re-polishing.
A metamorphic stone, Negro Marquina marble gets its name from the Markina, Basque Country quarries it's extracted from. Black with rich white veins running through it, it is a high quality and hard stone suited to all types of architectural applications.
As this flooring was of a harder stone we would be working at a slower grinding pace. This would allow us to preserve our tooling and cut more effectively.
Because of the stone density, we had to grind at a 200 grit to adequately open up the pores for our premium sealing product to be absorbed and enhance the longevity.
The outcome on the finished polishing phase was a sight to behold, as you can see from the images shown. There was little light getting into the hallway but you can see the very depths of clarity and reflection in the surface with the lights turned on.
